Client view #17: Matt McClurg

At ETFmatic we have the pleasure of serving clients in 32 European countries. We see this as an incredible advantage being able to interact with such a large and diverse group of people from all walks of life. As our aim is to democratise finance for all Europeans we ask our clients if they would be willing answer questions on their experience and initial decision to use ETFmatic. The post below is part of an ongoing series where we share the experiences some of the amazing clients we serve today.
Name:Matt McClurg
Age:35
Country:Norway

How long have you been investing for?

12 months.

Describe your investment goals. Are they long-term, short-term, are you on track? Have you changed your investment strategy over the years? If so, how?

My portfolio is 100% stocks for maximum growth. My goal is to build the portfolio up to a decent level (which is of course dependent on favourable market returns) where at 15 year mark I could potentially start making some regular withdrawals from my portfolio. I will still stay invested in the market in the long term with a portfolio weighted more higher towards equities.

Why did you decide to use ETFmatic?

I started reading about robo-advisors and found that ETFmatic was one of the few platforms available in Norway.

Can you provide a brief overview of your experience so far - How much are you investing, how long for, and how satisfied are you with returns to date?

I've been very pleased with the service provided so far. I really like the updates to the mobile app (which I mainly use) and the improvements to the interface. The weekly investment newsletter is nice to receive as well. The returns for 2017 were a bit below my expectations, although it seems that the rising strength of the Euro towards the second half of the year was to blame. I guess this is one of the consequences of Currency Risk.

How comfortable are you with using a robo-advice platform, how does it compare with your investing experience prior?

I'm very comfortable using a robo-advice platform which invests only in index funds at a very low expense ratio. I don't have any previous experience with investing prior to starting with ETFmatic. I do invest in one other low cost index fund (based on the MSCI World Index) offered by my bank in my local currency.

We'd like to thank Matt for his time and investing with us. If you would like to be part of our client feedback series and provide your opinion. Good, bad or indifferent, please do let us know.
